Title: The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell Pdf A Novel
Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni’s coming-of-age story is, according to Booklist, “a novel that, if it doesn’t cross entirely over into John Irving territory, certainly nestles in close to the border.”
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered, buoyed by his mother’s devout faith, his father’s practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends.
Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls.
Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design—especially not the tragedy that caused him to turn his back on his friends, his hometown, and the life he’d always known. Running from the pain, eyes closed, served little purpose. Now, as he looks back on his life, Sam embarks on a journey that will take him halfway around the world. This time, his eyes are wide open—bringing into clear view what changed him, defined him, and made him so afraid, until he can finally see what truly matters.
Winner of Suspense Magazine’s Crimson Scribe Award.
A Heartwarming Story There's a reason why this book has so many 5-star reviews. The story is well told and the characters become more like friends as you begin to read. What kid hasn't been teased for one thing or another while growing up. Sam's problem is worse than most and one he will be forced to deal with all of his life. Fortunately, he has a strong mother who is willing to go to the ends of the earth for her son and his well being as well as a father who always supports him. No one wanted Sam to attend the Catholic School and once he did, no one wanted to be his friend. All the children were afraid of him. The reader is carried along on the difficult journey he must make while dealing with his affliction as well as a school bully who continues to haunt him, even into adulthood. This book carries the reader from Sam's first days in school until he is an adult still trying to find his place in the world. The dilemma he faces at the beginning of the book is finally resolved at the end, but it is a long road. One other thing, read the author's notes when you finish. First, they are obviously not part of the same-old, same-old speech used on most of the e-books I've read, and secondly, I found the message the author leaves as to why he wrote the book almost as endearing as the book itself. So disappointed in the surprise religion push I felt tricked by the lack of declaration of religious theme, after reading this book. I have no interest organized religion, other than a sorrow for the horrible things done in the name of it , and an appreciation for those who do believe (in whatever they believe), yet don't try to drag me or others into it. I wish this had billed as a 'believe' push, so that I could have saved myself some money and time.Great book I started the book as a sample because I was not sure it was my kind of book. I am glad to say it was. It made me cry, smile, and appreciate some of the times I forgot in my life. As my wife’s grandmother once stated, “you are having the best time of your life you just don’t know it”
